I first heard it in rural NZ, South Island near Wanaka. Recently moved back home to Scotland and can now hear it from my (again rural) home in Aberdeenshire. · 2022-08-17 · from the WORLDHUMMAP archive
Sounds mechanical or electrical, like something on standby or idling. A low vibrating hum that usually sounds like it's coming from behind me, more noticable at bed time. I used to always think it was the fridge then would get up and the fridge wasn't making any noise at all. Then I went through a phase of thinking it was farmers working machines/irrigation at night but it definitely isn't. I recently found out that my dad also hears them Hum. Haven't yet asked any other family members but this is interesting and he describes it as the exact same thing as me and neither of our spouses hear the house when we do.
What they reported
First noticed: 2020
Pitch: 50 hertz
Loudest: During the night
Where: Indoors
Symptoms: Sense of vibration, I get migraines and have had anxiety bit never attributed those things to the Hum.
Changes with weather: I haven't noticed any correlation.
What stood out: a low hum

it is like an uneven engine, it doesn't seem to be the AC that is an even hum for example but more like an idling car engine but it feels like coming from the walls. It is not a "sound" but …

Low frequency, rumbling hum, almost sounds like the noise of a large distant war plane I first noticed this sound when I was about half way through pregnancy with my first (and only) child. …
