An open record of things people cannot explain

Nothing here yet. That is the point.

It said my name

A clear voice, an empty room

It is almost always the same shape: one word, your name, spoken once, clearly, often in the voice of somebody you know. You answer, and the house is empty. It happens to the grieving, to the exhausted, and to people to whom nothing else strange has ever happened, and it is common enough that most people who read this page will have had it or know somebody who has.

What is known, honestly

Hearing a voice at the edge of sleep has a name and a literature, and grief hallucinations are well documented and nothing to fear. Wide awake at two in the afternoon with the kettle on is thinner ground. The record keeps the account either way, because the person it happened to is the only one who was there.

What this record actually holds

18
accounts out of 48,464 touch on this. The seeded archives asked about lights and creatures, not voices in kitchens, so the traces below are what a search of every account finds in passing. The page will fill from the people it happened to.

The reason is worth stating plainly rather than hiding. This record is seeded from archives that already existed: sightings in the sky, encounters in the woods, the French space agency's case files, a decade of dream journals, sworn testimony before Congress. Each one only holds what somebody thought to ask about. Nobody has built the archive for this, which is most of why it took years of searching at two in the morning for the person who built this site to work out that what happened to him had happened to anybody else. That story is here.

Did this happen to you?

Then you would be the first, and the page changes the moment you are. Write it in your own words, and every account that arrives after yours gets checked against it. It takes two minutes and you can stay anonymous.

Tell us what happened

Know someone this happened to?

This is the page that did not exist when the person who built this site needed it. If somebody you know has been carrying one of these around, send it to them.
