A low hum in Pongakawa, Bay of Plenty

Low frequency hum - like twin diesel engines occasionally resonating louder. I used to live near the beach south of Auckland. I believed it was a local generator. Then I thought it was a distant ship with twin engines doing some sort of a dredging operation. Then I heard it 100 kms away in the mountains! Im convinced it is a long distance wave form. Wooden houses behave like a bass speaker box. I wonder if the evenings are worse because the lower ionosphere reflecting the (radio?) waves back down to earth, thereby reaching a large geographical spread.

What they reported

First noticed: 2015

Pitch: 85hz

Loudest: During the night

Where: Indoors

Symptoms: Ear discomfort (pain, fullness, throbbing)

Changes with weather: Im aware that there are air mixing propellers in the surrounding kiwi fruit orchards, Ive heard them, Im very sensitive to them. However they are powered during winter nights when a frost is expected, its been summer for the last 6 months, yet I hear the hum. They also free-wheel in the wind, but there often is nil wind, and I hear the hum. I recall once the hum stopped suddenly.

Constant humming noise. Sounds like a car engine idling on high revs or a fridge humming. It's really difficult to point where it is coming from. It is becoming more frequent and consistent.
