Moving in formation in Doubs, France
On August 18, 2013, around 2 a.m., three witnesses are intrigued by the straight, silent passage of a luminous phenomenon in the sky. Up to 11 discs of an orange-yellow color are counted and form a triangular shape in motion. The phenomenon moves away and disappears into the landscape. We are certainly dealing with an observation of lanterns; all the characteristics are present: color, absence of noise, characteristic formation of release in clusters. In addition, the hall where a wedding was held is located about 400m from the observation site, so the lanterns were probably still at low altitude and very close to each other at the moment the witnesses saw them, reinforcing the impression of a single structure. The almost total absence of wind allowed these lanterns to move slowly above the witnesses, in a straight line. Furthermore, the confirmations from the town hall, then from the person who rented the wedding hall, leave no doubt about the release of lanterns at the time of observation. This case is classified as "A": certain observations of Thai lanterns.
