Moving in formation in Meurthe-et-Moselle, France

On December 27, 2012, around 11:00 PM - 11:30 PM, a witness observed the rapid movements WEST-NORTH EAST of three glowing yellow balls in the sky. The objects quickly disappeared at the horizon. The observation of three yellow balls flying for one minute in formation with the wind (south wind of 20 km/h: weather) on a weekend evening suggests Thai lanterns. The witness describes "a triangular halo" a priori not very compatible with classic Thai lanterns: but the drawing made by the witness (ovni5) matches fairly well a photo of a lantern (see GEIPAN photo). The witness indicates a change of trajectory, not very compatible with movement with the wind (movement a priori linear): it could be a local gust, or also an illusion in the estimation of distance. The apparent speed noted by the witness is compatible with objects flying at 20 km/h at an altitude of about a hundred meters. Although the witness refutes this hypothesis, GEIPAN classifies this case "B" probable observation of Thai lanterns, due to the strong similarity with these objects, and the date and time of observation compatible with the end of a private party.
