Red lights in Landes, France

On Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 10:40 PM, a witness in his garden is intrigued by the movement below the clouds of three large round white lights arranged in a V shape and one red light. The UAP silently flies over his house, then accelerates and disappears. No other testimony is collected. The weather conditions for this observation case are as follows: overcast sky, north wind, and intense thunderstorm activity without rain (dry lightning): see attached weather map of lightning strikes. For information, at the same time, the international space station ISS followed by the European cargo ATV5 were potentially visible to the north and northeast fairly low on the horizon (see Calsky data), but the witness was not looking in that direction and the sky was overcast. He could not have seen this rather exceptional event. The description given by the witness does not, moreover, match this type of phenomenon at all. The observation of nearby glowing balls during stormy weather suggests a ball lightning phenomenon. The trajectory and behavior of the phenomenon are compatible with this hypothesis, but there are nevertheless certain elements of the testimony that do not fit well: the red point and the relative position of the balls, which seems to be stable, elements that may have been due to a perceptual illusion. The reality of the triangle carrying the 3 lights is not certain: it is a well-known perceptual illusion to perceive an object encompassing the outline of luminous points (the so-called "Gestalt" illusion). GEIPAN does not have the means to confirm or refute this last hypothesis (other witnesses, photos), and therefore this case is classified "C" for lack of information and cross-checking.
