On January 1, 2012 at 1:35 a.m., two witnesses in a car observe in the sky the east-west, silent movement of a craft they do not identify. The witnesses do not agree on the shape but note a yellow-orange glow enveloping the object. The witnesses lose sight of the object as it is hidden by the forest. The description and the movement according to the wind (see weather report) are consistent with the appearance of a Thai lantern. It is noted, however, that one of the witnesses describes a triangular shape, and the other a circular shape. There were very numerous lantern releases during this night of January 1, 2012. GEIPAN classifies this case as "B": probable observation of the movement of a Thai lantern.
