Possibly like the vibrational noise of a transformer. As a kid I had a Lionel model train. The sound I hear is quite like the noise from the transformer that powered the model train - but intermittent. It's "on" more than it's "off" but it's pretty much consistent day or night. RE: sensitivity to sounds questions. I consider my hear excellent if not better than most peoples'. I enjoy music and listen often. I consider it a gift except for this weird hum in my house.
