Red lights in Haute-Savoie, France

On August 29, 2015 at 11:02 PM, a couple observed for 5 minutes the silent passage of a red ball in the night sky. The photograph taken intrigued the witnesses (see image2.jpg). Only one testimony was collected. The witness first saw a first UAP in the sky. The description (in particular the color, the occurrence on a weekend night, and the wind direction with a strong component "toward Switzerland") constitutes elements highly compatible with a Thai lantern. The witness wanted to photograph the UAP. But the motivation for his testimony comes from the fact that he believes he can detect figures inside the UAP on the photo ("you can clearly see that there are figures inside" excerpt from the questionnaire). The analysis of the photograph (see Reconstitution PAN 2 publication.pdf) indicates, besides an obvious blur structure, that the photo was not taken toward the sky, but rather toward a square. The origin of this aiming discrepancy remains unknown. One can recognize, by comparison with the daytime photo of the square and despite the blur: - the lights of two streetlamps, one of which inspired a UAP in the witness - the play structure of the square lit by these streetlamps - and perhaps even the balcony railing where the photo was taken. A geometric reconstruction shows that from the likely location of the shot (depending on the exact point on the balcony) one finds the respective alignment of the streetlamp lights and the play structures. Consequently, GEIPAN classifies the case as A: misinterpretation of a photograph by the witness.
