A low hum in Aube, France

On July 1, 2014 at 10 p.m., a witness, awakened by a noise, observed through his window a triangular-shaped craft with three white lights at each corner and a red light in the center. A humming sound was heard by the witness. The object seemed to graze the roof of the neighboring house. The witness went to get binoculars and a camera, but the UAP disappeared before the witness could photograph it. Only one testimony was collected. The witness's first idea was that it was a drone. The humming perceived during the observation is compatible with this hypothesis, as is the impression of proximity and possibly the light signaling, which is not regulated for civilian drones. It should be noted, however, that since drone overflights of cities are prohibited, especially at night, there is no doubt that no publicity of such an overflight would have been made, in this hypothesis. Moreover, an Internet search for the possible use of a drone in the Troyes area at the date and time of the observation yielded nothing. Furthermore, confusion with an airplane or helicopter seems difficult to imagine, as the lights do not correspond to an aircraft's navigation lights. In order to go further in the analysis, it would have been necessary to have the following information, not filled in on the questionnaire: - height of the UAP at its first sighting. - measurement of the angular size of the UAP. - was the triangular shape perceived or deduced from the lights? - were the lights steady or blinking? - photographs of the environment, in daylight, and in particular from the witness's position at his window. A request for clarification on each of these points was sent by email to the witness without response. The drone hypothesis remains possible, but due to the missing information, GEIPAN classifies the case as C: lack of reliable information.
