An open record of things people cannot explain

A beam of light in Seine-et-Marne, France

On June 14, 2015, between 3:28 a.m. and 3:45 a.m., a witness observed in the sky the unusual movements of a slightly elongated oval shape, yellow-orange in color, of imposing size. The object silently made successive movements and stops before disappearing. Joining a second person for carpooling, the two witnesses observed the phenomenon again, then saw it again in another town before losing sight of it. The photos and video taken by the witness are not usable. Only one testimony was collected. The phenomenon observed by the witnesses is in every way compatible with the hypothesis of confusion with a nightclub laser (a "sky tracker") used on a weekend night (see the investigation report). Such an establishment is present in the town of Jouy-sur-Morin, in the theoretical visibility zone of such a sky tracker. Although the investigator could not demonstrate the use of such a laser from this nightclub on the evening of the observation, the explanatory hypothesis nevertheless remains probable in view of the other testimonial elements. GEIPAN agrees with the hypothesis formulated by the witness himself. The objection he raised was the absence of beams rising from the ground. In fact, the projection beam of a laser can be visible or not, depending on local weather conditions, with pollution also very certainly playing a role, as well as the luminous power of that beam. The presence of fine particles suspended in the atmosphere is a primary and essential factor in the formation of a luminous beam. These particles can be water droplets, microparticles of pollutants, etc. At the time of the observation, visibility was good (more than 20 km) and no precipitation was recorded. The conditions were therefore rather favorable for a laser light beam not to be visible. Consequently, GEIPAN classifies the case as "B": probable laser animation from a Sky Tracer or Sky Rose.
