An account in Morbihan, France

GEIPAN continues to publish all of its archives on its public website www.geipan.fr. Among its publications are old cases classified at the time (A, B, C or D) which are now being re-examined, with the sole aim of being more relevant in the conclusions. Thanks to new technical means (software) and the investigation experience acquired over all these recent years, this re-examination sometimes leads to new remarks or even a change of classification explained in an investigation note. This observation case, previously classified D and named SAINT-GERMAIN EN LAYE (78) 1995, is part of a set of cases recently re-examined. On Saturday 23 December 1995 around 2 a.m., a witness and their friend observed an enormous object, round and saucer-shaped, slowly rotating on itself and moving back and forth above a house, then stabilizing above a field. The witnesses observed lights all around it. No noise was heard during the observation. The witness, frightened, went back inside, looked through a window, but the object had disappeared. Only one testimony was collected. The UAP observed by the witness is probably only a laser from a local nightclub (also called by the Anglicism "sky tracker") projecting its beams onto the low cloud layer (present that day); see the investigation report. The description of the phenomenon: the witness mentions "a round shape, enormous"... "not very high off the ground"... "below this object, we could make out lights all around, it was turning slowly on itself, it was coming and going and was above a house then afterwards it moved closer to me and stabilized above a field"... "it made no noise". This description is characteristic of the appearance and behavior of a sky tracker, as lasers can pivot on themselves, turn in a circular motion, move back and forth, and stop. Laser beams are not always visible. This depends on the content, in the atmosphere between the ground and the base of the clouds, of suspended particles, which can be water droplets, dust, pollen, pollutants... No information on this subject is available for the period of the events. The location: the witness indicates a house located in a hamlet northwest of their position as facing the phenomenon. However, in the extension of this hamlet, within a few degrees and a bit further, there is a nightclub called "l'Arlequin", likely to have used a sky tracker (which already existed in 1995). The existence of this nightclub is attested from 1993. The observation takes place on a weekend night, when nightclubs are most active. The conditions allowing the visualization of beam impacts are quite specific, in terms of type of atmosphere, clouds, and ambient lighting. The same nightclub can create its effects in different places over an area of 10 to 20 km around it. The GEIPAN database www.geipan.fr contains similar cases (search for cases with keywords Sky-Tracer, laser Sky Rose). Consequently, GEIPAN classifies the case as B: Sky Rose.
