2012 observation case reported to GEIPAN in 2015. On August 31, 2012, a passenger in a car driving from Chartres (28) to Caen (14) is intrigued by the presence of a very bright yellow-fire colored phenomenon low on the horizon that they cannot explain. The phenomenon seems to move forward just like the witnesses. The witness takes a photograph. Only one questionnaire is collected, but the driver also saw the luminous phenomenon. The observation location or the road is not precisely indicated by the witness nor defined by the investigation. Given the elements collected (see the investigation report), namely: - the appearance, brightness, and color of the UAP. - the sun low on the horizon and the UAP at the same height. - the presence of clouds conducive to the formation of a parhelion. - the presence of a trail characteristic of a parhelion. - the angular distance separating the sun from the UAP consistent with that of the small halo of a parhelion. GEIPAN concludes that the UAP observed by the witnesses is very certainly a parhelion phenomenon. The case is classified as "A" as a certain observation of a parhelion.
