Red lights in Gironde, France
On March 4, 2015 at around 8:15 PM, a witness notices that in the sky there is a circle of off-white color as big and bright as the moon. The object is above the trees, surrounded by two thin bright lines. The object moves slowly, then takes an elongated shape followed by two red lights and one white light and disappears from the sight of the worried witness. Only one testimony is collected.
GEIPAN called the witness to clarify certain points of the testimony: the witness was observing in the northeast direction, and had indeed noticed the Moon on his right. He clearly indicates two small thin lines around the luminous disk.
This description matches well the atmospheric optical phenomenon called a parselene, located at 22° and/or 46° from the Moon, at a similar elevation.
This phenomenon is an image of the Moon produced by reflection on ice crystals of cold clouds at high altitude (cirrus). See the Wikipedia article on parselenes.
