On December 25, 2014 at 12:45 AM, a witness looking through windows saw, twice in a row, 2 red-colored lights moving from west to east. No particular noise was heard. The witness followed the phenomenon until it was lost from sight toward the Black Forest. No other testimony was collected on this phenomenon. The observation of red balls crossing the sky in a few minutes, on a holiday night, clearly suggests Thai lanterns, probably released nearby at the end of a private party. The movement was observed from west to east, which is consistent with the west wind, at 11 to 24 km/h recorded at Basel-Mulhouse at 1 AM on December 25 (see the Météociel record.
