An orange orb in Val-d'Oise, France

On January 1, 2014 at around 1:10 a.m., a witness on a street notices the presence in the cloudy sky of the successive passage of five glowing balls of a yellow-orange color. The observation lasts about twenty minutes before the balls disappear one after another. No other testimony was collected. This very precise and extensively documented testimony describes the passage of five glowing balls with a yellow-orange glow. The horizontal trajectory is straight and the objects move below the cloud layer. The wind recorded at Pontoise-Cormeilles is southwesterly, weather. The Infoclimat reading at Saint-Ouen-l'Aumône indicates SSW. The witness looks toward the southeast, and sees the balls pass from his right to his left while rising. He has the impression of a closing-in of these balls, whether real or due to the increase in their brightness. The videos, excessively zoomed and defocused (focus blur) do not show the details of the object, only its orange color, and various optical and digital artifacts. The trajectory of the lights as proposed in the file prepared by the witness is not justified. This testimony has all the characteristics of the observation of Thai lanterns: orange glowing balls following one another on a roughly linear trajectory, according to the local wind, during a night of festivities. The objects are probably much closer than the witness estimates: probably between 1 and 2 km. GEIPAN classifies this case "B": probable observation of Thai lanterns. The witness refutes this hypothesis.
