An open record of things people cannot explain

An account in Haute-Garonne, France

On Sunday, September 6 at 12:24 a.m., a witness observed from the terrace of their home the passage of 12 glowing yellow-orange balls in the sky. The movement was silent along an upward trajectory. The light of these balls gradually dimmed. One of the photographs (DSC 03903) provided by the witness makes it possible to locate the Moon relative to the balls, then to recalibrate the direction of observation indicated by the witness, which turns out to be incorrect. The balls would be floating in a southeast direction, which is consistent with the direction of the winds. The duration of the phenomenon not exceeding 5 minutes with a progressive extinction of the glows, the slow trajectory and the variation in relative positions between the balls, the time of observation (during the night from Saturday to Sunday), the yellow-orange color. All of this confirms the hypothesis of Thai lanterns. Failing to have found the origin of these lanterns, GEIPAN classifies this case "B": probable observation of Thai lanterns.
