A triangle shape in Lot-et-Garonne, France

On July 16, 2013 at 10:45 PM, a witness lying on his terrace was looking at the stars. He was intrigued by the silent and rapid passage of three whitish "pellets" in a triangle in the hazy sky. A slight halo was seen. The objects disappeared at the horizon after 30 seconds. Only one testimony was collected. The sky was overcast over Agen. Air traffic was fairly heavy at high altitude (7000 to 12000 m) but cannot explain the observed phenomenon. GEIPAN considered several hypotheses for this observation: - A nightclub laser: the observation time seems short, and the witness, who considered this hypothesis, rejects it. - Birds (seagulls) lit by the city lights, but immersed in low clouds: it seems surprising that birds remain lit while climbing in altitude. The apparent size (2/3 Moon) and the circular shape fit this hypothesis poorly. The witness, who considered this hypothesis, rejects it. That said, the dynamics of the phenomenon are fairly compatible with those of birds. The witness mentions that the seagulls seemed to react to the phenomenon. - A visual problem (ophthalmic) of the witness or an ophthalmic migraine could have caused phosphenes. The blurred outlines and the impression of flat lights are compatible with this hypothesis. It seems difficult to verify this hypothesis after the fact through a medical examination. Since none of these hypotheses can be confirmed, and since this is a fairly distant and blurry phenomenon, GEIPAN classifies this case in category "C" due to lack of information or cross-checks.
