A witness reports their observation of a few seconds made on February 19, 2012 at 9:15 a.m. While opening a shutter, the witness notices in the sky the presence of a gray aluminum object, spherical in shape, passing over their house. It moves in a south-southwest direction without noise and without leaving a trail. It disappears into the clouds. The observed object, moving in the direction of the wind, is certainly a balloon filled with helium or hydrogen. One might think of a weather balloon, perhaps launched from Mérignac an hour earlier, and arrived at Arès through the action of winds that changed considerably during the previous hour (see weather data for Bordeaux and Biscarrosse), or more likely a fairground balloon released from Lège Cap Ferret, or even a pilot balloon launched to prepare for hot air balloon flights.
