Rumbling in Nord, France

On September 26, 2006, in LANDRECIES at around 9:30 PM, a witness, who is watching television with her children, suddenly hears a loud noise that makes the house shake and sees a light outside the house. She goes out and sees two headlights approaching the house with a very loud dull rumble. Two orange balls hover a few seconds above the house before moving away. Further off, the two balls separate before disappearing in the distance. Throughout the entire observation, the dull noise is continuous with a very large increase at the moment of separation. The passage of the phenomenon is accompanied by a gas irritating the eyes and throat. The witness's partner, absent during the passage of the phenomenon, returns about ten minutes later and notices the irritating smell persists. Within a radius of about twenty kilometers, other witnesses heard and/or saw part of the phenomenon. The next day, the witnesses notice the presence on the ground of a whitish substance, in several places and located under the presumed path of the phenomenon. This substance disappears in the sun. Analysis of samples of this substance by the Institute of Forensic Science detected no traces of kerosene, and nothing links these deposits (probably a natural phenomenon caused by humidity) to the passage of the observed phenomenon. The conclusion of the investigation shows that the witnesses observed the passage of 2 Mirages on approach maneuvers to Cambrai in a configuration that forced them to fly very low and very slowly.
