Hovering in Nord, France

On October 1, 2007 at 7:40 a.m., a motorist on the A27, 5.5 km from the Belgian border, observed toward the front of his vehicle, 1-2 km away from him, a dark gray UAP shaped like two delta wings with a wingspan greater than 100 meters. White lights were arranged along the trailing edge of the wings. He continued driving for 1-2 km, then pulled over onto the emergency lane about 400 meters from the UAP. The latter seemed to be hovering above a field at about a hundred meters in height. After about ten seconds, the UAP tilted and then moved away into the distance at a speed of 30 to 40 km/h. Although the witness did not recognize an aircraft, the investigation first turned toward the observation of an airplane, because in an axis near the tree line lies the approach path for aircraft at Lille Lesquin airport. Moreover, during the reconstruction, an approaching aircraft was observed. Its apparent size is of the same order as that of the object observed by the witness, but the aircraft is positioned much higher above the trees than the observed object. The second hypothesis put forward was that of observing a Thalys or a TGV train on the Lille-Brussels line. The TGV line is indeed visible from certain points on the highway. However, this hypothesis was abandoned because, from the witness's location, the portion of the line where the train would have been at the time of the observation runs through a cutting: any observation is therefore impossible even from a few dozen meters from the track. At this point in the investigation, and pending further inquiries, no explanation can be put forward.
