An account in Sarthe, France

On October 26, 2011, between 9:30 PM and 11:00 PM, a witness saw, above the trees, about 200 meters from her house and in a clear sky, several lights colored blue, pink, and yellow in a single thick cloud. These lights turned on and then off. She woke up her friend, who also saw the phenomenon but quickly went back to bed. The witness observed the phenomenon several times over more than an hour from various windows of the house. No particular noise was heard. Finally, the frightened witness went to bed. No photographs were taken. No ground traces were seen by the witness and her husband in the following days in the observation area. No other testimony was collected. None of the hypotheses considered (aircraft, laser, air ionization phenomenon) were judged convincing enough to be retained (see the investigation report). GEIPAN therefore classifies this case as "D1" because of its strangeness, and because of the uniqueness of the testimony and the absence of recording or trace.
