This observation case, formerly named LORGUES (83) 14.05.1995, is part of cases classified as "D" by SEPRA and which are currently being re-examined (see the document Investigation Notes). On May 14, 1995, a witness, alone in an isolated campsite, spots between the trees but close to him, a luminous UAP, shaped like a UFO, silent and stationary about 1 meter above the ground. The witness tries to photograph the object but the camera jams. The UAP then seems to change volume and move toward the witness, who becomes frightened and flees to call the gendarmerie. He will return to his tent in their presence. During the investigation, no traces on the ground or in the vegetation were noticed by the gendarmes, and no other testimony was collected. No military aircraft flight took place on the evening of the observation in the area concerned. This case has little substance (single and isolated witness), the description of the observed UAP is fairly precise. The sincerity and credibility of the witness have never been questioned. However, the imprecision regarding the times is a serious handicap for formally identifying the UAP. The described phenomenon presents many common characteristics (direction of observation, shape, size, color) with a perfectly known astronomical object: the Moon. It is not the witness's visual perception that is in question, but the interpretation the witness makes of his observation through his feelings (panic, fatigue, nighttime observation). In the current GEIPAN classification, this case of low strangeness is classified as "C," a case not identifiable due to lack of data, although a misidentification with the Moon is considered.
