On 27 October 2013, during a fair, the witness observed and photographed a black object moving very slowly beneath the clouds. Several people later observed the phenomenon, but only one testimony was collected.
The appearance of the object as described by the witness: black to grey object, ovoid, changing shape, evoking a balloon of complex shape turning with the wind. Because it is observed against a clear sky background, it necessarily appears very dark, whatever its real color.
The wind recorded at Le Luc-Cannet des Maures (Source: Meteociel) is variable, weak, oriented from the East in the morning, from the North at noon, from the West in the late afternoon; this does not really match the observed movement, but it is extremely difficult to estimate the wind in a mountainous area with weak wind.
Despite this uncertainty, given the similarity of the object to a balloon, probably related to the local festival, the GEIPAN classifies this slightly unusual case in category "B": probable observation of a festive helium-filled balloon.
