Low pitched motor type, throbbing sound. Mostly constant, but with occasional momentary breaks. Very annoying. Stopping me getting to sleep. Loudest I have ever heard it tonight. Only found out about the hum tonight whilst searching internet. Didn't realise it was a phenomenon. Thought it was just me, as my husband can never hear it.
