A low hum in G11 5EE

Low hum like a taxi or truck idling outside the flat or like a washing machine constantly on spin cycle. I can actually feel the noise shaking the furniture (and me!) which is why I was convinced it was a neighbours washing machine for so long. Weirdly, last week I had flu and realised afterwards that, either, I just didnt hear it during that time or was so ill it just didnt impact upon me in the same way. As soon as I started to feel better and really could do with the sleep, its back. Over the last year or so I have spent nights wandering through my flat from room to room and out into the shared close and stairs to somehow try and pinpoint the sound but it just seems to be everywhere equally. If I shake my head or turn over in bed or, as suggested, breathe out loudly its gloriously gone but appears again as soon as the counter noise ends.
