low frequency like an engine running outside but only heard indoors Found a renewable energy hydro installation (Archimedes screw type) a half mile from house making a very similar sound, the sound cant be heard outside until within about 40ft of the hydro. Suspect noise is from hydro or possibly wind turbines.
