An orange orb in Loire, France

On March 15, 1979, at around 7:25 a.m., five people working on the repair of a railway track noticed a luminous phenomenon that intrigued them. An orange glow the size of a football slowly crossed the sky from East to West on a descending trajectory. The observation, which lasted about 30 seconds, made it possible to note the presence of a trail of white smoke. No noise was heard. The object disappeared, hidden by the landscape. These people were probably witnesses to an atmospheric re-entry which, given the observation time, could be space debris.
