Red lights in Ain, France

On February 13, 1979 at around 9:45 PM, a witness with his children observed a large white ball moving through the sky at low altitude from West to East. This round, very bright object had many lights flickering from inside. Three lights (yellow, green, and red) blinked beneath the object. Despite observing for two to three minutes, the witness could not identify the object. During the investigation, other testimonies of similar sightings were collected: since December 1978, the passage of a white ball in the same direction of travel had been noted. Witnesses also reported regular voltage drops in the area. The origin was not determined. Another witness stated that on December 4, 1978 at around 6 PM, she saw a device of trapezoidal shape, rectangular at its base. This object was hovering at low altitude and was lit by red lights. The noise it made resembled that of a helicopter. The hypothesis of a light aircraft flying in this valley was put forward, but the air traffic control center did not detect, on its surveillance and control radars, the presence of a craft on the days and times indicated. The presence of airfields in the region and the repetitiveness of the sightings suggest that a certain number of them correspond to aircraft. However, the available information does not allow this hypothesis to be confirmed.
