Green light in Aveyron, France

Case previously published under the name Pont-De-Salars (12). On September 12, 1996, around 8 p.m., a mother and her daughter, in a car at the exit of Flavin (12), observed an object they could not identify. The craft was made up of an ovoid skirt and a cylinder topped with a bright red dome (with three lights). On the cylinder, a fluorescent green light rotated like a beacon. The object, silent, was hovering about 4 meters above the ground, about ten meters from the road. Its size was compared to that of about two cars. The object moved away after a few minutes toward the north or northwest. That same evening, after the observation, a drawing was made by each of the witnesses and notes were taken. The next day they were heard by the gendarmerie. The observation was estimated at about two minutes. A computer-assisted drawing was made by a gendarme based on information from the witnesses. The on-site investigation did not turn up any traces or clues. The evening of the observation, the sky was clear and starry and there was no wind. Air traffic and radars indicated nothing abnormal. Surveillance patrols were set up over the following days but revealed nothing. Searches for other testimonies nearby were negative. No similar case was reported in the print or television press. From the investigation carried out by the gendarmerie and the description of the phenomenon by the witnesses, no coherent explanation could be given. The phenomenon remains unexplained.
