A triangle shape in Yvelines, France

On February 6, 2017 at 7:16 PM, a witness in front of his garage observed above his house the slow movement of a dark triangle with 2 white lights. The observation lasted 30 seconds: not long enough for the witness to take a photograph. Only one testimony was collected. The witness probably observed a low-altitude aircraft. Indeed (see attached reconstruction), the movement of a low-altitude aircraft is noted on or in the immediate vicinity of the observation location, both on the virtual radar readout (Plane Finder) and on the national radar readout. The latter was unfortunately framed to the side of the observation location, but the end of the aircraft's track can be seen heading in the direction of the observation location. On both readouts, it is noted that this aircraft was making "circles" or back-and-forth movements, which makes it possible for the witness to have observed it according to the described heading from East to West. GEIPAN did not deem it necessary or justifiable to seek the identification of this aircraft, which is in any case without "strangeness" because it was cooperating with national radars. The characteristics of this aircraft are therefore not available to correlate with the observation, but the latter is compatible with an observation of an aircraft (in many situations, the green and red navigation lights are not visible from the ground; the white landing lights or red ground-positioning lights can be predominant). Consequently, GEIPAN classifies the case as B: probable observation of an aircraft.
