Vanishing suddenly in Bas-Rhin, France

On August 9, 2016 at around 12:30 AM (and not the 8th as indicated on the questionnaire) a witness in the town of Wissembourg (and not Riedseltz) observes in the sky two white lights that seem to follow each other above the clouds in circular and linear trajectories. The lights seem to come from above the cloud. They disappear instantly. Only one testimony is collected. One hypothesis is favored: the observation of a skytracer (a bright spot coming from the ground and reflected by the atmosphere. See the investigation report). Many details of the observation strongly suggest this type of misidentification: lights in pursuit, rapid movements, circular pursuit, repetitive movements, etc. (the witness says "circular chase and linear follow-up, repeating like a 'game' without really being in the same place, there was a slight shift at each pass"). One can also note that the weather was overcast, which is favorable to this type of misidentification. Various configurations can be encountered: visibility of impacts alone, beams alone, or both at once. It is the weather conditions that determine visibility and visibility distance, and this explains the random or even fleeting nature of the phenomena. The witness's objection to this hypothesis is of two kinds: - The type of movement. These can vary depending on the equipment and themes. A witness cannot know all the possibilities. - The light seems to come from above the cloud and not from the ground. It is likely that the witness only has experience of impacts with traces of rising beams, thus giving the certainty that the lighting comes from the ground. When the rising beams are not visible, one can indeed think that the light comes from above the clouds. The witness's expression ("these being illuminated from above, I mean that we could see part of the clouds below, unlike the famous disco projectors where we can clearly see that the clouds are illuminated from below") indirectly reflects the somewhat diffuse nature of the spot ("part of the clouds is below") typical of these impacts without sharp beams on clouds. A search for festivities that took place in the area of the observation site during the night of August 8 to 9, 2016 shows the presence of the Acropole Open Air in Surbourg (67), a party that took place in the parking lot of the Acropole hall on the evenings of August 6, 7, and 8, 2016, which is located 14 km southwest of the observation site, that is, in the direction of observation of the UAPs. This last festive evening was accompanied by an orchestra. It was not possible to know whether a skytracer was used on that occasion. Consequently, the hypothesis of observing a skytracer remains only probable, due to the characteristic description, but not certain. The case is classified B, probable misidentification with a skytracer.
