A triangle shape in Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, France

On July 3, 2015 at 10:29 PM, several people are intrigued by the presence in the night sky of a particular luminous phenomenon. Only one witness reports that she observed for 3 to 4 minutes two rows of round, white, parallel and horizontal lights, without a halo. These lights gradually form a triangle, with no apparent noise, and begin a curve before disappearing to the West. The repeated observation of lights in the sky, arranged in regular geometric shapes, suggests an aerial patrol on exercise or demonstration. A check with the Patrouille de France, based in Salon de Provence, tells us that the patrol exceptionally flew at night in this region on July 1 and 3: on July 1 to rehearse the demonstration that took place on the 3rd for the baptism of the graduating classes. The silence accompanying the observation is completely normal because the noise of an aircraft seen head-on, at more than a few km, is very faint. The 8 Alphajets of the Patrouille de France are equipped with powerful lights visible at more than 10 km along the flight path. When the aircraft turn, the beam of the light changes direction, and observers located along the initial flight path thus see it suddenly disappear. These aircraft, seen from the side, are only visible by their red or green position lights, not powerful enough to be visible at great distance. Seen head-on, the approach is not perceptible, the aircraft seem motionless, only lateral movement is perceived, and it can be faint. GEIPAN also received reports of an observation of the same patrol seen on July 1, from Valensole, Lurs, Sainte-Tulle, about ten km away. In the first days of July, GEIPAN receives every year, since 2008, reports of similar observations in Provence, one of which in particular was reported at Villeneuve on July 5, 2013.
