On April 7, 2015 at 10:30 PM, a witness spotted several bright points of light in the sky that seemed to move very fast. The phenomena remained visible for over an hour, and the witness stopped observing. She gave her video to the newspaper Sud-Ouest. A northwest wind of 20 to 30 km/h was recorded at Cognac: weather. GEIPAN contacted the military air traffic control, which provided a series of radar tracks of aerial activity corresponding to laps of the "traffic pattern" at the Cognac-Chateaubernard military base (see the map showing the aircraft trajectories).
