An orange orb in Finistère, France

On February 22, 2015 at 3:03 in the morning, a witness notices through a window the movement of an orange glow in the clear sky. The witness ends up counting 27 identical glows coming from the NNE and disappearing toward the East "in a dazzling manner." No noise is heard during the 34-minute observation. No photograph is taken. No other testimony will be collected. One hypothesis was retained (see the investigation notes): observation of the movement of Thai lanterns. The consistent appearance (color, luminosity, duration), the number, the day and the time, the identical trajectory for all the objects are all elements favorable to this hypothesis. The people who released the lanterns, however, were not identified. The phase of the phenomena disappearing "at dazzling speed toward the East" corresponds to the phase of the lanterns going out. As often for this type of case, the witness interpreted the rapid decrease in the lantern's luminosity as a very rapid moving away. Due to the elements analyzed during the investigation, the GEIPAN classifies this case as "B": probable observation of Thai lanterns, released at the end of a private party.
