A witness reports an observation made on August 7, 2009 at 9:20 PM in Golf-Juan, a seaside resort in the municipality of Vallauris (06): his son observes in the sky the movement and change of direction of an orange object shaped like a sphere that intrigues him. The main witness arrives on the first-floor balcony and indeed notes at high altitude the silent movement at constant speed of an orange ball. A photograph is taken. The object moves away then goes out, becoming gray before disappearing completely hidden by a hill. The description of the flying object matches that of a Thai lantern: the speed of movement is compatible with local weather conditions (little wind, variable thermal breezes), the duration of the observation (3 minutes) as well, as is the description of the object's disappearance. The witness interprets this object as distant and very large, a frequent confusion because it is impossible to estimate the distance of an unknown object. Geipan classifies this case "B": probable passage of a Thai lantern.
