An open record of things people cannot explain

An account in Seine-Saint-Denis, France

On August 13, 2012 at 12:09 AM, a witness observed from their window the silent passage in the sky of a glowing ball of red-orange color that disappeared behind the clouds after a particular trajectory. Since the witness indicates their observation direction very precisely, the cartographic reconstruction is precise (see map). The observation direction SW happens to be, roughly, the direction of the weak NE wind: the witness therefore has the wind at their back. A flying object carried by the wind then seems to move very little laterally; it is this hypothesis that was retained. The color of the described object resembles a Thai lantern, which could have been launched at the end of a small private party, common during these summer evenings. However, the observation duration, estimated at 20 or 30 seconds, seems short. GEIPAN classifies this case "B" probable observation of the passage of a Thai lantern.
