Pilot witness in Ctes-d'Armor, France

In the night of 7 to 8 August 1999, between 11:30 PM and 1:30 AM, an amateur astronomer who was observing the Andromeda galaxy spotted with the naked eye an object moving at constant speed along a north-south trajectory. After a few moments, the trajectory abruptly changed direction to go north-northwest before returning to the north. The observed phenomenon was silent, non-luminous, and brownish in color. The sketch made by the witness shows a barrel shape. The observation lasted about one minute. A careful investigation with nearby airfields, as well as with civilian and military authorities, did not make it possible to associate this observation with an aircraft, either in terms of examining air traffic or radar traces. This phenomenon remained unexplained.
