An orange orb in Finistre, France

On November 22, 1981, between 7:40 and 8:00 a.m., several people are on the ring road at the airfield. Daylight has not fully broken but visibility is good. Suddenly they see a red-orange ball that remains motionless above the field located just before the airfield. This ball, the size of a football, disappears abruptly and seems to have fallen into the field; at no point do the witnesses hear any particular noise. On duty there that morning, two gendarmes also see around 8:00 a.m. a glowing orange ball that moves forward on the runway as if for a landing while an airplane on that same runway is preparing to take off. As the ball descends, it takes on a more imposing shape. Immediately the firefighter alerts the control tower but the object disappears instantly. No noise is heard by the witnesses and no trace is found in the field or on the runway. Nevertheless, the CRNA reports a spot visible on radar between 7:50 and 8:04 a.m. This phenomenon remains unexplained.
