Rumbling in USA, California

pulsing low rumbling like the sound of a tractor idling but slowed down so each pulse is slow and heavy. It was really scary as a child and often caused dreams of multi-story vehicles and industrial trash compactors when I was able to get to sleep in spite of it. My parents never believed me that there was a sound they couldn't hear; so my insomnia was ignored and I have permanent health conditions from not getting the sleep I needed to grow
