Very low frequency resonance Bening a muaician with sound mixing/recording skills, I can firmly say that the hum is not oeiginally a sound. It is a resonance, vibration, that propagates to your location and resonates with the materials (ex: house walls) around you creating the so called "hum. It's an extremely low frequency hat is created, that can only be captured by drums microphones specially designed to record the kick-drum. These microphones don't use a diaphragm but instead a piezoelectric material to convert physical resonances into sound.
