A low hum in USA, Richardson

Low frequency modulating hum Used a stethoscope on water line, gas line, walls, concrete floors and turned electricity off thinking it was something running in the attic. We had bought this house 3 years ago and only heard it here. several rooms in the house I do not hear the noise at all. The sound seems to just radiate , can't isolate noise louder sometimes other times not as loud.
