On January 1, 1980, several military personnel on duty sighted a luminous phenomenon in the sky on three occasions. A small orange ball appeared suddenly and successively at 11:16 PM, 11:33 PM, and then 11:46 PM. An intense glow accompanied this object, which moved slowly and always on a horizontal trajectory. At each appearance in the same spot, the dogs in the base's kennel howled as if dying. No sound and no smoke accompanied the movement of this object, and the military personnel were certain it was not light emitted by an airplane or helicopter.
