Red lights in Seine-Maritime, France

On Saturday, November 5, 1960, at around 8:30 PM, two people noticed green-orange-and-red glows that seemed to come from a craft moving slowly in the sky. A few days later, on November 13, at around 2:45 AM, one of the witnesses was intrigued by a green light coming into his bedroom. Waking his companion, she indeed noticed the flashing of green-orange-and-red lights, then went back to sleep. The witness then went to his doorstep and saw, 150 meters away, a circular craft several meters in diameter landing on a disused railway line near the dwelling. The craft, silent, resting on a tripod, emitted orange and green lights. The observation lasted about twenty minutes before the craft took off silently and disappeared toward the southwest, alternately emitting green lights. Intrigued, the witness reported his observation to a reporter from a regional newspaper. No trace was found at the scene during the gendarmerie investigation. The investigators interviewed several residents and, among others, two SNCF employees who were on duty that night at the level crossings in the area concerned: nothing unusual was noticed by these railway workers that evening. During the investigation, the credibility of the main witness, well known to the authorities, was strongly challenged by all the people questioned and by representatives of the local authorities. No other testimony on this observation came to corroborate the witness's account. GEIPAN classifies this case as "B," probably a hoax.
