Red lights in Isère, France

On November 25, 1976, at around 7:10 a.m., a farmer out hunting observed in the distance, for a few seconds, a red glow that he took for a chimney fire. Overlooking the landscape, he then saw a scintillating light coming toward him, moving along an east-west trajectory. When it reached ten or fifteen meters from the hunter, this phenomenon changed direction, and the witness then noted that he was in the presence of an elongated object about two meters long. The cylindrical object was motionless 10 meters above the ground, and an intermittent red glow spread all around the object. It then moved silently toward the south, stopped, then set off again and disappeared, hidden by the landscape. Following the gendarmerie investigation, no other testimony was collected, and no trace was found in the area where the witness said it passed. It is difficult to conduct a retrospective investigation on such an old case. The hypothesis of observing an aircraft is not retained. This unexplained case has little consistency (a single witness). The observation presents a high degree of strangeness (close observation but short, 8 to 10 seconds). In the current GEIPAN classification, this unexplained case, with little consistency and a strong character of strangeness, is classified as PAN D1.
