both described white light
Charente-Maritime, France · 2016-07-13 · from the GEIPAN archive
On July 13, 2016 at around 11:30 PM, a witness observes for 30 seconds a very bright white light stationary in the southwest of the clear night sky. Only one testimony is collected. The witness is the same as in the case of SAINTES (17) 21.03.2016 (mistaken for Jupiter near the Moon). This time the witness makes another mistake with a celestial body, either Mars or Saturn, both located just to the left of the Moon. The three celestial bodies are this evening at low elevation. The layout of the location (witness's drawing) is compatible with the visibility of only one of the three celestial bodies, in the indicated direction, with the other two hidden by obstacles (tree to the right of the UAP, building to the left). If visible, the Moon would have a priori been reported in first quarter. The extinction of the UAP after 30 seconds may have been caused by the passage of a cloud. The impression of departure at colossal speed results from the idea (for the witness) of an object that goes out because it suddenly moves away. Consequently, GEIPAN classifies the case as A: astronomical observation.
