On Monday, June 2, 2014, at around 10:45 p.m., three friends observe through the window the passage at constant speed of a red-orange ball in the clear sky. No noise is heard during the observation, which lasts three to four minutes. This observation report of a significant glow, seeming to be a fireball, lasting 3 to 4 minutes, suggests a Thai lantern, carried by the wind. The Météociel weather report for Besançon indicates a very light wind from the North. Nevertheless, lantern releases on weekdays are rare, and the fact that this luminous object was alone does not allow this hypothesis to be strengthened either. The unstable and weak wind also does not allow confirmation that the object was flying with the wind. The low strangeness of the case (similarity to a known phenomenon), and the delay of more than 8 months between the facts and receipt at GEIPAN, do not justify a field investigation.
