This observation made on January 11, 2014 at 4:50 p.m. and the associated photograph has all the characteristics of an airplane contrail observed at sunset. See on this subject information from GEIPAN: airplane contrails. The FlightRadar data shows intense air activity in the witness's field of view: several airplanes are candidates for having produced this condensation trail. The weather data indicates a north wind with significant visibility of 60 km. The observed trail is probably at 100 or 120 km, visible due to its altitude (10,000 m) and especially the lighting conditions of the setting sun. It is probably because of these excellent weather conditions, and an unusual viewpoint, that the witness was surprised by this rather ordinary phenomenon.
