A dark figure in Ille-et-Vilaine, France

The witness, who flies kites, observes very high in the sky a metallic gray object of oval shape, fitted with two round wings. Its trajectory is very straight and its speed particularly fast. The witness, due to his activity, is more or less with his back to the wind, looking toward the East or Northeast (wind from West to Northwest). The witness saw the object pass above the kite, and disappear toward the North (according to the questionnaire) or the East (according to the witness's diagram named: stbenoit.jpg). The object behaves like an object carried by the wind (sustained wind of 26 to 44 km/h), probably flying fairly low (100 to 200m) so that it appeared very fast to the witness. The shape drawn by the witness is close to the silhouette of a Mickey balloon (see Mickey balloon). The witness perceives the object's trajectory at 45° from the wind direction: this gap can be explained on the one hand by the uncertainty of the estimate, and on the other hand by the variability of the wind over time (see weather data) and by altitude. This observation is not very strange: the object moves in a straight line, and most likely with the wind. This eyewitness account, very short, from a single witness, is of average consistency (a photo or a second testimony would have made it possible to confirm or refute the hypothesis put forward). GEIPAN classifies this observation as "B" as a probable observation of a child's balloon.
