On May 10, 2013 in Nemours, three people observe at 10:30 PM from their terrace the movement of a light that is dark fluorescent orange surrounded by red. One of the witnesses photographs and films the phenomenon with a mobile phone for forty seconds while the object moves away. Seven to eight minutes later, the witnesses see a second light coming from the same direction and disappearing at exactly the same spot as the first one. The witness also films this second observation for about a minute. The single testimony collected reports in detail this observation of a "dark fluorescent orange light surrounded by red, with no trail" and clearly suggests Thai lanterns (sky lanterns) probably launched on the occasion of a celebration. The witness's videos confirm this hypothesis (see YouTube links in the witness questionnaire). The observed movement from southwest to northeast is consistent with the southwest to south wind recorded at Melun (see weather data). The lanterns are between 50 cm and 1 m in size, and fly between 50 and 300 m in altitude. This case is classified as B: probable observation of Thai lanterns passing by.
